Hello Ladies,
I hope you are having an awesome day. Below is a preview into one of my chapters for my book, Unfiltered Sermons. Please give me any feedback or suggestions for what to add to this chapter, Spring Cleaning, all year round, and what topics to address in the book. This is not for me. It is for you and for God.
2. Eliminate impurity (and you know what I am talking about)
This has got to be one of the hardest things to do, honestly. I am a sucker for everything Shonda Rhimes. I love How to get away with Murder, Scandal, and anything of the like. As much as I support Rhimes’ success and love for television writing, no Christian can deny the amount of lust that resides on each episode. Tony Gwendolyn is *coughs* very “attractive.” Some women feel some type of way after any episode that features sexy men that worship the women they love. The harsh reality of 21st century television is that almost all of the dramas, comedies’, what have you, are lust ridden. Either the shows use sexual innuendos or they actually portray sex on the television screen. I know it is enticing. Trust me, I know. However, you cannot watch those things for super obvious reasons. The main reason is that most of the shows are impure in character so they do go against what God desires for us.
Remember this bible verse: Philippians 4:8- And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Big
Paul knew what he was talking about even back in the day! Although this verse is directed towards a specific group of people, like many instances in the Bible, it is relevant today. Impurity and temptation lingers at every corner. The devil is working overtime guys. The dude is on a mission to grab as many souls as possible before his time runs out, and he is not alone. He has thousands upon thousands of angels working with him. Temptation is the devil’s middle name. He loves temptation and he uses whatever he can to lure us into the so-called party he is throwing. Be careful that you are not deceived.
Television is not the only impure thing that can rule our lives. Music, music is really, really important. ....
Perhaps you have already had sex or obsessed over money or done drugs. I want to encourage you and remind you that 1) your life is not over and 2) God is still on your side, believe it or not. It does not stop there.
People in your life can also tempt you into impure things. Some Christians claim that they are allowing Christ to work through them so that is why they are friends with whomever. There is a difference between working against the enemy with your Christ-like character and working with the enemy by adopting his way of life. This suggestion by its very nature is extremely difficult. We meet interesting people in our lives, people who “get” us. That makes it difficult for us to keep a reasonable distance between people who do not contribute to our spiritual growth in Christ. I urge you to do this though, within reason. I am not suggesting that you walk around rebuking everyone in the name of Jesus. What I am saying is to guard your heart because it is so easily affected and can be swayed. Once the devil can attack the heart, you are gone for.
